Colt Trooper Mk V Serial Numbers

Estimated value of a Colt.357 Mag. Serial number is L89338 and was purchased new in July, 1978. No nicks - Answered by a verified Firearms Expert. Sep 08, 2012  The serial number of the Colt Trooper that I have consists of the letter 'Y' followed by four digits. If anyone has a lead on where I might find a date of manufacture listing that matches up with this serial number configuration, I'd sure appreciate knowing about it.

• Shipping and Handling

o Shipping of any serialized item requiring a background check will be to FFL only. It is the responsibility of the buyer to contact theirdealer to have a copy of a signed, legible FFL provided to us. Selecting a dealer that is listed on the GB site does not negate or by-pass that requirement. When sending an FFL, please be sure toinclude the auction number and buyer’s name. FFLs received without both of these will not be processed until that information is provided. Your dealer’sFFL will be sent to us and we will forward it with your order to the fulfillment center. The fulfillment center will include a copyof their FFL with the item.

o There is a shipping estimator in the listing that will provide the price of shipping.

o We strive to have items processed within three business days of receiving payment and your dealer’s FFL, however it may take up to seven business daysfor an item to ship due to item location, work load, personnel availability, etc.

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “LAWMAN MK V / .357 MAGNUM CTG.”. The left sideplate is marked with the rampant colt on V logo. The crane and crane cut are marked with the serial number. The right side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A.”. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP” in a triangle and the rear with “L”.

Sights / Optics: The revolver is mounted with a square groove in the top strap for a rear sight. The edges of the groove in the top strap are serrated to reduce glare. The front sight is a serrated ramp facing the user integral to the top of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered black rubber Pachmayr finger-groove grips on a round butt grip frame. The grips have no notable damage or wear. The checkering is well defined. There are no rips or tears. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. The frame has a small spot of wear on the left face of the topstrap toward the front of the cylinder and another on the right side in the same location. The bottom of the trigger guard has a tiny mark. The cylinder has a light drag line which has not made it through the finish for most of its circumference. The ejector rod knurling and hammer and trigger serrations are sharp, as are the screw heads. The pin heads are unmarred. The markings are crisp. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The cylinder lockup on this revolver is tight on all six chambers with a very small amount of side-to-side and front-to-rear play and the single action trigger is crisp. The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: After the success of their MK III series revolvers, Colt introduced their new MK V frame revolvers in 1982. These had a number of upgrades to the MK III series including changing from sintered to cast steel parts, a longer mainspring and mainspring guide to provide a better trigger pull and a new rounded grip frame. This example is the 2' Lawman MK V which is a great compact, steel-framed, 6-shot .357 revolver. The steel-frame and full-grip allow for great control over the powerful .357 cartridge while the short barrel still allows this revolver to be carried concealed should you choose to do so. This revolver would be great for concealed carry or home defense, but given its condition and the fact that it was only produced for two years it is likely this will end up making a Colt collector very happy. CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This revolver CANNOT be transferred in California but CAN be sold to a California resident as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley. All cartridge firing handguns (even C&R's and antiques) sold to a California resident must be DROS'd. This does not apply to out of state buyers.

This gun can only be shipped to an FFL, and it will be shipped from an FFL. It is your responsibility to ensure that the gun is legal to own and receive in your area. Please include a copy of your dealer’s license with payment or faxed/emailed separately. We will need CFLC numbers for CA FFL’s to ship a firearm within California. We are FFL dealers and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws.
We always combine on shipping to save you as much as we can. You can generally assume it will be full shipping charge on the first item, 1/2 on the second, 1/3 on the third, etc. Exceptions only arise when the items are going to different locations (different licenses), or when they are exceptionally large, heavy or valuable and cannot be combined.
